Carol Burns Home grew from a lifelong love of art, interiors, textiles and design, and a belief that the things we choose for our homes should bring us pleasure as well as serve a purpose.
Based in West Cornwall, Carol is an artist and designer whose creative life has always been closely connected to colour, pattern and the visual world. With a background in fine art and a long-standing interest in interiors, Carol Burns Home brings these influences together in a collection of distinctive homeware, textiles, art and accessories.
Living and working in Cornwall provides a constant source of inspiration. The extraordinary light, changing colours of the landscape, gardens, coast and countryside all find their way, directly or indirectly, into Carol’s work. But inspiration comes from much further afield too – from art and photography to vintage textiles, botanical forms and the rich history of British pattern and design.
Alongside Carol’s own original designs, the collections celebrate some of the fabrics she has loved for many years. The intricate florals and joyful colours of Liberty fabrics sit alongside the nature-inspired patterns of William Morris, whose designs demonstrate just how timeless a beautiful pattern can be.
This mix of old and new is an important part of Carol Burns Home. Traditional fabrics might become a contemporary lampshade or blind, while Carol’s own artwork and designs are transformed into colourful pieces for the home. The aim isn’t to follow a particular interiors trend, but to create things with enough character to become part of a home for years to come.
The collection includes lampshades, cushions, blinds, bunting, decorative accessories, children’s and teen décor, gifts, Christmas decorations and art prints, with many pieces handmade or produced in small quantities.
Making is at the heart of the business. From choosing fabrics and developing original patterns to considering scale, colour and pattern placement, attention is given to the details that make the finished piece feel special. There is something wonderfully different about an object that hasn’t simply rolled off a mass-production line.
Carol Burns Home is ultimately about creating a home that feels like your home – somewhere filled with things you’ve chosen because you genuinely love them. It can be colourful or calm, contemporary or traditional, carefully coordinated or happily eclectic. The important thing is that it reflects the people who live there.
